1—— Jeremy Chan(陳智明)

1. “I love coaching — it is like helping people, a supporting role.”
2. “So right now I have no idea where I will stand.”
3.  “Opera singing is very very difficult, very demanding, it is one of the most demanding jobs in the world ever.”
4. “Because it is natural voice. There is no microphone, so because the orchestra is underneath, and the conductor is in front, the stage is on top…You cannot rely on the ear because by the time the singer’s sound could already be one beat or two beats behind, but they think they are in time because of the acoustics.”
5. “Sometimes there is just so much to do for the conductor because they have an orchestra of 70 people or so. The conductor needs to conductor 70 people, adding to conduct that one person there (on the stage) coming on time. And so sometimes they cannot do everything….sometimes the conductor could give the cue, but the conductor might have five other things. He cannot do everything together. “
6. “Usually the conductor has a more tense relationship with the singers because they don’t often trust with each other, but usually if the pianist is reliable, then the conductor trusts the pianist as a coach and the singers also trust the coach.”
7. “I will have to rehearse that (as prompter) when the orchestra comes (to Tangshan).”
